The Nifty is
back on top of the crucial 7,800-mark by jumping 70.90 points, or 0.91 per
cent, to 7,820.60. In a choppy trade on Monday, the Sensex pared all its early gains to settle the day 71 points lower,
while the broader Nifty ended below its key 7,750-mark. Indian indices once again ended in the red extending its losing streak
to fourth consecutive trading session. the Sensex was down 14.29 points or 0.06% at 25,287.61. The
Nifty was currently up 3.70 points or 0.05% at 7,753.40.Monsanto India cracked 7% to Rs.2,113 on BSE. Bayer AG offered to acquire Monsanto in
an unsolicited bid worth about $62 bn to create the world’s biggest supplier of
farm chemicals and genetically modified seeds, as per media reports. Britannia Industries Ltd stock was
lower by 6% at Rs.2756.The company posted a net profit after taxes, minority
interest and share of profit of associates of Rs. 1902.30 million for the
Quarter ended March 31, 2016 as compared to Rs. 1672.50 mn for the Quarter
ended March 31, 2015. Harita Seating Systems
surged 12% to Rs.601. The company reported 7-fold rise in net profit figures at
Rs 12.85 crore for the quarter ended March 2016 against Rs.1.85 crore in the corresponding
quarter a year ago.
GLOBAL MARKET
On the global
front, Asian stock market closed on a mixed note. In China, the Shanghai
Composite index climbed 0.65% to 2,844, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index
closed down marginally. The Nikkei 225 ended 0.5% lower at 16,654 points. The Nikkei Flash Japan Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index showed
Japanese manufacturing activity contracted at the fastest pace in more than
three years in May as new orders slumped. European stocks fell as
decline in oil prices sapped risk appetite. The FTSE 100 is trading lower by
0.35%. DAX and the CAC 40 are trading down 1% each.The Dow Jones, in the
US, failed to recover gains for the week after stocks fell amid renewed
concerns of a rate hike sooner rather than later. Global stock markets
were also a bit lacklustre as investors bet that the US Federal Reserve was on
track to raise rates sooner rather than later.
